#12 – When Simon Said
Outside of the West End Echo building, later in the evening. Amelia has made her way to confront Simon about his actions, having not been able to track him down since the phone call. As Amelia arrives, full of anger. Charlotte also appears, muttering to herself about telling Simon to ‘stuff it’ since he can’t be bothered to answer her calls any more. Amelia overhears her at a distance but Ella suddenly recognises her, shuts up and tries to sneak away, unsuccessfully. An argument ensues. Ella has called Sophie asking for a lift home after the ordeal, and so the two sisters find themselves in the middle of the ongoing argument.
Amelia finds herself defending her marriage, and to Charlotte of all people, as they find themselves in a sort of one-upmanship moment about their relationships. Amelia maintains that he loves her and that Charlotte must be imagining it.
Charlotte finally has a chance to tell Amelia how she really feels about her, and how Amelia’s prevented her from ‘happiness’ with Simon, but begins to see that Simon is the one who should be getting the grief instead. He’s played them both for years. That doesn’t stop her from rubbing it in Amelia’s face a little though.
Sophie doesn’t really know all the details about the man they are arguing about, but she objectively contributes that they are both mistaken and that their anger should really be directed towards the man who has caused it.
Ella listens to the other women argue, but is still questioning herself and the previous events with Simon. Is he really this monster they’re talking about?
