#9 – Lipstick on Your Mind
Amelia’s at home, and going through the laundry. Oh, the glamour! She finds one of Simon’s shirts with lipstick on the collar. She stares at it in disbelief and has to confront all the nagging doubts she has had recently.
Do people see her acting as a façade or a fool? Is she just enabling her husband’s actions?
Amelia ponders what people must think of her and how her life has ended up here. She decides to confront him. Calling the office, she hears exactly what he’s up to in the background and makes a decision that this needs to come to an end.
What Happens Next - After the Song:
The end scene of the first half is purposely left for dialogue in order to maximise its impact. As the lights fade on Amelia as she leaves to confront Simon, the lights go up at the West End Echo. Most people are beginning to make their way out of the office at the end of the day, as news of the meteor shower buzzes around the office.
Simon has arrived back from another ridiculously long lunch break and after bragging that he can have anything he wants, in true Van Ewer style, he makes his way into his office where Ella is working. He’s heard a rumour about her crush and initiates a flirtatious conversation backing Ella into a corner. Does she want this? Well, at first, despite being nervous, she looks awestruck like all her Christmases have come at once. After all, Simon finally got her name right as well!
Simon begins working his usual charms, and despite reacting well to his initial advances, she starts to look far less enamoured and gradually more and more scared. Terrified even. ‘Simon Says’. Lights fade to black…
